Secure Boot readiness audit
UEFI firmware, certificate trust stores, KEK/db/dbx state, signing chains, Linux shim, firmware update feasibility and rollout risk.
Secure Boot 2026 · Industrial device security
Assess the 2026 Microsoft Secure Boot transition, strengthen your chain of trust and plan long-term security for embedded products.
Request an engineering assessment →Microsoft is transitioning UEFI Secure Boot certificates originally issued in 2011. Certificates began expiring in June 2026; another Windows boot-signing certificate expires in October 2026. This does not automatically stop devices booting or ordinary Windows updates. Devices without updated trust material may miss future early-boot security protections. Compatibility depends on OEM firmware and each boot chain.
We assess actual platform exposure before proposing firmware changes or an operating-system migration.
UEFI firmware, certificate trust stores, KEK/db/dbx state, signing chains, Linux shim, firmware update feasibility and rollout risk.
OEM-coordinated UEFI updates where supported, verified Linux boot chains, firmware signing, pilot testing and recovery validation.
Review support deadlines, product constraints and whether maintained Windows, Yocto Linux or another platform is appropriate.
Hardware-backed key storage, secure provisioning, U-Boot verified boot, MCUboot, anti-rollback and controlled debugging.
Signed firmware updates, recovery paths, interrupted update testing and deployment safety for field devices.
SBOMs, vulnerability remediation processes, validation evidence and a defined product-security maintenance plan.

Zephyr and FreeRTOS microcontrollers with separate secure boot chains are normally outside this particular UEFI transition. Some remedies require OEM firmware support or authorized updates.
